RITUAL DANCE at DEVADASI with Monika Nataraj

Since ancient times, women have danced in ritual celebration – invoking energies of the Universe, manifesting beauty, opening portals to subtle realms, and transmitting blessings through their bodies. As temples and places of worship flourished, the sacred act of dance was used as a sublime vehicle of prayer, healing, and honoring of the Divine.

The role of ritual and ceremony as an overall container, and within the dance, will be explored in these 4 workshops, which can be taken separately or together, as each has a specific theme focusing on different aspects of the Goddess: the feminine face of the Divine.

VIRGIN/WHORE CEREMONY  

Feminine archetypes are powerful symbols to awaken and bring balance to our being. The duality of the pristine, pure, untouched Virgin is often seen in opposition to the wild, raw, fully sensual Whore. In this ritual of sacred and erotic dance, incorporating psychological exploration and magical insight, we delve deeper into these two aspects of ourselves. We discover wholeness in our bodies and psyche as we integrate this potent, holistic way of the mystical woman. Please wear a combination of black and white clothes and be prepared to dive deeper into your sexual and sublime self.

LAKSHMI DANCE RITUAL 

Lakshmi is the Indian Goddess of beauty, prosperity, abundance and generosity. She bestows on us the ability to manifest our deepest desires and guides us on grounding our spiritual aspirations into this world. Lakshmi governs the harmonious flow of offering and receiving. She brings wealth of heart. In this unique ceremony, we will invoke the energies of Lakshmi through dance movement and meditation and awaken our ability to manifest our dreams and attract more beauty and love into our lives. We will also tap into the heart opening power of raw cacao in our ceremony. Please wear pink or red (or a combination) along with gold accents.
